Scarlet Tanager (Piranga olivacea)

Cracked open a brand new sketchbook this week. Still getting the feel for the paper in here and how it takes to watercolor. Gonna take a bit of getting used to, but colors really do seem to pop on it.

Saw my first Scarlet Tanager of the season on a lunchtime walk at work this week. They are crazy bright and an awesome summertime bird to try and spot. Figured this guy was worthy of the first page of the new sketchbook. The first page is always the most intimidating for me but with this guy out of the way, hopefully I can fill this book with drawings that are actually good.

Hey Horsepuppy, this is an amazing post that you have shared here and I must say that you should share more stuff from the sketch book that you have. Amazing share for an art lover indeed!
