Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula)
I've been seeing a ton of these on the river so far this winter. I see them daily bobbing in the water, diving for a quick snack. From a distance it looks like the males are just black and white but if you catch them in a good shot of sunlight you can see their heads have this beautiful green sheen to them. I tried to add a bit of iridescent medium to the watercolors I'm using to try and capture the shiny greenish hue they got going on. It's super hard to photo and forget about scanning. Yikes! Still had fun painting these little dudes in the sketchbook though.
